19th C. Plains Indian Top Hat w/ Trade Silver Band

The lot features a 19th century Central Plains Indian trade silver banded top hat. The top hat is a nice tall beaver stove pipe top hat, a classic 19th Century example. On the hat shows a wide trade silver hat band which is stamped "MISSOURI" as well as a touchmark / hallmark of a crest of "F / DI". The band has a roll engraved and etched design showing a maltese cross, "X" checkering and a four point morning star with maltese cross stamp at the center (found on both sides). The band is held onto the top hat with old leather ties. The inside of the hat shows a green and cream pattern lining, what appears to be original. For example of early Plains Indian top hats see the Circa 1850 Plains Indian Top Hat in the James Compton collection. Provenance: From the Robert Dickens aka "Little Blue Hand" collection from Chicago, Illinois and Livingston, Montana. The hat itself measures 8"H by 11.25"W by 12.75"L. The band itself is 2"W by about 22.25"L not including the 1.5"W opening / ties.
