This is a fantastic 19th Century beaded Indian hide scout jacket from the Metis-Cree Indians. The jacket is all Indian tanned hide with trade cotton thread sewing showing long frilly Indian hide fringes along the shoulders, bottom of the pockets, in between the arm pits and across the back / shoulders. The back shoulder area, down the center, along the pockets, at the cuff ends and the back is original classic whimsical geometric beadwork all in period 19th Century glass trade seed beas. The beadwork shows colors of greasy blue, Cheyenne pink, greasy green, semi-transparent green, greasy white, sky padre light blue, red white heart, semi-transparent lilac, cobalt, greasy yellow, greasy butterscotch yellow, facted brass and metal. The beadwork shows some loss and the hide shows some dark patina spots. The Indian hide is mostly supple, soft with some stiff spots. The shoulders show a couple wear through spots with old repairs, with a hole on the left shoulder, back shows some wear through spots with other repairs. Truly a fantastic 19th Century scout jacket from the Northern Metis-Cree Native American Indians. Provenance: From the Robert Dickens aka "Little Blue Hand" collection from Chicago, Illinois and Livingston, Montana. The jacket itself measures 32"L by 19W from shoulder seam to shoulder seam and 58"W from cuff to cuff.
