Featured in this lot is this rare Mbunda Sachihongo Zambia Africa mask circa 19th century. The mask features a wonderfully and professionally crafted hard wood construction that shows a open mouth figure with two teeth and a large forehead. The Mbunda Sachihongo masks are ceremonial masks originating from the Mbunda people, a Bantu ethnic group found primarily in Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These masks hold significant cultural and spiritual importance and are associated with the traditions of the Mbunda. The mask shows a wire backing for hanging that was added well after the creation date. The condition of this Mbunda Sachihongo mask is preserved with some slight wear to the right ear of the mask but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this mask is 10 1/2" x 7 1/8". The collective weight of this mask is 1lb.
