Featured in this lot is this 19th century leather wrapped reinforced travel trunk for The Right & Honorable Lord Wharncliffe. The trunk shows four compartments separated with framed cloth trays and numerous straps to hold things together. The trunk is reinforced with hardwood and brass. The plaque on the top of the trunk reads, “The Rt Honble Lord Wharncliffe No. 2.” “John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, 2nd Baron Wharncliffe FRS (20 April 1801 – 22 October 1855), was a British Tory politician. He served briefly as Under-Secretary of State for War and the Colonies between December 1834 and January 1835.” The condition of this travel trunk is good for a travel trunk from the 19th century, featuring wear consistent with the trunk’s age; the second layer of transportation trays shows a hole in the cloth construction. The measurements of this travel trunk are 37 1/2" x 23 1/2" x 24".
