The lot features a beautiful Indian tanned buffalo hide pipe bag from the Blackfeet of the 19th-century, collected in Montana from a large Kansas City, Missouri private collection. The piece exhibits Indian brain-tanned buffalo / bison hide that is beautifully beaded on both sides with typical Blackfeet / Blackfoot designs. The beadwork is done in all old glass trade seed beads with cross motifs showing colors of chalk white, cobalt, light blue, cobalt, semi-transparent red. The bag shows nice frilly hide fringes, beaded top opening and side edges with tin cone danglers and the original tie strap still intact with old brass trade beads. Provenance: Collected in Montana from the Blackfeet of Northern Montana, from an ex-private collection of Native American beadwork in Kansas City, Montana. Measures overall 23-inches long by 5.5-inches wide.
