This is an exquisite artful late 19th Century beaded Buffalo hide knife sheath from the Central Plains with an old trade knife. The sheath is comprised of thick, Indian tanned Buffalo Bison hide with a parfleche rawhide inner liner and shows exceptional geometric beadwork along the front as well as the original Indian tanned hide tie strip still attached at the top. The beadwork is all period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads in a striking Central Plains geometric pattern showing colors of greasy blue, greasy light yellow, cobalt, and semi-transparent rose. The sheath is paired with an old 19th Century trade knife in typical clip point fashion with two piece hard wood grip scales secured with copper rivets and wonderfully adorned with a geometric solid brass trade tack design in two sizes of tacks with a concho silver tack at the back. One of the more attractive and beautiful sheaths we have had. The sheath itself measures 10.25”L and the knife is 12.75”L.
