The lot features a circa 1950's tightly hand woven fine wool rug in the rare Crystal Eye Dazzler pattern from a Navajo weaver and accompanied by an early Billings, Montana hardware tag. The tag is from Winter Hardware Company of Billings, Montana which was incorporated in 1910 by H.H. Winter and W.E. Ryniker as the Ryniker-Winter Hardware Company. The company had a complete loss to thier building due to fire in 1918 but rebuilt and served Billings into the 1960's. The rug shows hand spun and dyed fine churro wool rug having a tight weave with intricate detail in the classic Old Crystal Eye Dazzler pattern. The Old Crystal Trading Post was first established in 1894 on the Navajo Reservation. In 1896 J.B. Moore purchased and renamed the trading post to Crystal and created a mail order catalog, first sent in 1903 and 1911. The rug is in good condition being well kept with no major damages apparent and no visible bleeding. Tightly woven showing an approximate knots per square inch of 119 (17 by 7). The back of the vintage tag is handwritten $300.00. Measures overall 72" by 50" with the fringe / tassels and 60" by 37.5" without.
