This is a 19th-century Cochiti Pueblo polychrome painted parfleche drum. The drum shows a carved single log that has been covered in wetted and stretched parfleche rawhide wrapped on both sides of the drum and tied with rawhide lacing. The surface of the wood is painted with a banded and triangular design in red, blue, white, brown and black. The top and bottom have a dark brown or black painted finish. There is a small rawhide handle with trade thread sewn on. Has nice sound. Measures 7-inches by 6.5-inches by 3.75-inches.
