The lot features a cast hammer pull belt hatchet axe with carved handle from the 19th Century American Frontier. The piece was listed by General Lee of Kingsville, Maryland and sold at auction for nearly $1,000 as a circa 1870 Native American Carved Handle Tomahawk from a Tulsa Museum 60 year collection. Was said by General Lee to be found at the Custer Little Bighorn battlefield general greater area and was purchased from the Tulsa, Oklahoma Museum. The validity of this provenance cannot be confirmed, other axes being referred to as tomahawks are still for sale by General Lee. This example shows a cast metal, likely iron belt axe with flaring blade, unique eye decoration and flat wide pull hammer back. The axe is on a carved wood handle that appears to be hardwood and has primitive carvings. Measures overall 14.75”L and the head is 4.5”L.
