Featured in this lot is this 19th century iron and shaped wooden sugar axe and hammer poll. The construction shows a wonderfully constructed iron axe head and hammer poll construction with a shaped wooded haft. These axes would be used to chip away sugar loafs in the shape of cones to make smaller pieces to add to tea, coffee, and cooking. The condition of this sugar cutting axe is good, with no obvious signs of damage and patina consistent with the age of the axe. The measurements of this axe are 5 3/4" x 2 1/4" x 1/2".
