Featured in this lot is a Colt Model 1851 percussion cap Navy revolver chambered in .36 cal. This fine example of Colt’s most famous and popular model percussion revolver shows no signs of over-cleaning and all markings are sharp and clear, including the barrel stamping “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY" and “COLTS PATENT” on the left side of the frame. This exceptional Colt has lovely, wonderful blue patina on the barrel and cylinder, and roll engraved cylinder scene depicting a harbor of sailing ships. This revolver has excellent mechanics and screws and has matching serial number 31202 stamped on the barrel, trigger guard, and butt. The factory original one piece walnut grips fit beautifully and still retain good wood finish. The Colt 1851 Navy was one of the most classic side arms of the Civil War and later in the Old West. Wild Bill Hickock was carrying a pair of Colt 1851 Navy revolvers when he was gunned down in Deadwood, South Dakota on August 2, 1876.
