For your consideration are a rare, original Haynes Yellowstone Park stereo view of a Montana cowboy and a photograph of a cowboy, circa 1890's. Frank Jay Haynes was the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railroad and Yellowstone National Park in the late 1880's. This stereo view is number 1780 and shows a portrait of a cowboy riding a mule with a camp set up in the background. This piece is in good condition. The second photograph shows a handwritten title, "Curly Cow Boy = Interior.S.DK.", and a written memo identifying the photo as "great friend of Mike's = he once eat dinner in our claim shanties." A claim shanty is a cabin built hastily on a land claim to legalize possession of the land and provide shelter. The photograph is of a cowboy on a horse carrying a Winchester lever action rifle. This photo is mounted on a cardboard back and is in good condition for its age. It measures approximately 6.5” x 5.5”.
