For your consideration is this pair of original General John H. Dickinson saddle bags, circa 19th century. John H. Dickinson (1849-1909) was appointed Major General, commanding the entire National Guard of California, served in the Senate, was one of the principals in the incorporation of Sausalito, and was the first President of the town's board of trustees. The bags show Dickinson's mark on the inside of the flap and show two straps that hold the bags closed. The condition of these bags is fair; the bags are in good condition for their age and well preserved, but there is a split in the connecting panel separating the bags from each other and some damage to the straps and handles as well. The measurements of the saddlebags are 14 1/2" x 17" for each of the saddle bags. Provenance: California saddlebags owned by General John H. Dickinson.
