The lot features a wonderful beaded pipe bag attributed to the Southern Plains tribes from the late 19th Century. The bag is likely Comanche or Kiowa in origin and is comprised of a Buffalo Bison Indian tanned hide with geometric beadwork on one side having an hourglass and diamond pattern. The beadwork appears to be all glass trade seed beads with colors of light blue, chalk white, and maroon. The bottom shows a thick long Indian tanned Buffalo hide fringes. The side and top edge / opening of the bag has a fancy beadwork and the top has a tanned hide tie fringe. The bag and fringes show traces of yellow ocher / ochre mineral pigment dye. The piece shows little to no bead loss, no obvious signs of damages with minor wear from nice age and use and displays well. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Jim Bastian of Kansas City, Mo. Measures overall 34 inches long by 6 ½ inches wide.
