Featured in this lot is this First Edition of “General John Sullivan's Indian Expedition in 1779” by Frederick Cook, 1887, publisher Knapp, Peck & Thomson Printers. Illustrated with pullout maps. "Journals of the Military Expedition of Major General John Sullivan Against the Six Nations of Indians in 1779 with Records of Centennial Celebrations" documents Sullivan's American Revolutionary War military campaign against the Iroquois Confederacy Indians, who had sided with the British since the French and Indian war. The scorched earth campaign devastated the Iroquois economy, forcing thousands to flee as refugees, creating immense hardship, and making them heavily reliant on the British for survival. John Sullivan (1740-1795) served as third governor of New Hampshire after the war, as well as the U.S. Senate. The book shows an illustration of Sullivan across from the title page and fold out maps on the inside covers. Reddish brown cloth bound gilt gold stamped illustrated hardcover is in fair to good overall condition, fading, scuffing and staining exhibited. Intact pages display age tanning and slight foxing. Measures 6.5"W x 10.25"L x 1.5"D. Weight is 3lb, 6oz.
