For your consideration is this 1996 first edition of, "The West - An illustrated History" by Geoffrey C. Ward and preface by Stephen Ives and Ken Burns. This book is beautifully written, richly illustrated with over 400 photos and meticulously researched. The West both tells the story of a unique part of the country and provides a metaphor for the country as a whole. With all of its complications and contradictions, its heroism and iniquity, exploitation and adventure, sober realities and bright myths, it is the story of all Americans, no matter where on the continent they happen to live, no matter how recently their ancestors arrived on its shores. The book features a dust jacket with a photo of Native Americans and Frontiersmen in a group. The hardback cover is wrapped in dark beige cloth. The book is in good condition with no signs of wear or tears. The interior pages of the book are in good condition with no tears and no signs of foxing. Overall the book shows good condition. The book measures 11" L x 9 1/2" W x 1 1/2" D.
