Presented in this is a First Edition "Will Rogers Ambassador of Good Will Prince of Wit and Wisdom" by P. J. O'Brien, 1935, The John C. Winston Company publishers. Rogers' death saddened America and much of the rest of the world because he used his wit to remind the rich, powerful or popular that most people are not sheep, and live their lives based on common sense and shared values. Rogers was one of the first "multimedia" stars, appearing on stage, in films, on radio; writing for newspapers and magazines; and authoring books. Although Will Rogers may not be that well-known these days, the impact he had in the America in the 1920s and 30s is still evident. Airports, municipal buildings, concert halls and other venues still carry his name even in cities that had no overt connection to Rogers. This book, published a few months after his death in 1935, is an unapologetic tribute and eulogy to Rogers. Author P.J. O’Brien begins the book with the deaths of Rogers and pilot Wiley Post in a plane crash in far north Alaska. Then he begins following Rogers’ life chronologically from his boyhood through his development as a young adult and his later life as an actor, writer, broadcaster and philanthropist. An interesting look at a time when heroes had a bit more substance then athletes, actors and entertainers. The blue cloth bound stamped illustrated hardcover is in good overall condition, loose boards, scuffing and fading observed on covers and edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning.
