Offered in this lot is a raffia strand of four layer red, white, and blue Chevron disks. There are 136 disks in this strand; the disks range in size from 1/2" to 1/8" X 1/2". These beads were used for trade from between the 16th and 20th century as a token money to exchange for goods and services. Most of the Venetian chevron beads made for export to West Africa and to the Americas have layers in red, blue, and white. The Raffia strand has broken, but the disks are still in good condition. The remaining beads on the strand are 24" long.
