Featured in this lot is a First Edition three (3) volume set of "A History of Montana" by Helen Fitzgerald Sanders published by The Lewis Publishing Company in 1913. Each volume is beautifully bound in genuine leather. As a set, these books provide a comprehensive history of Montana beginning with its exploration by Lewis and Clark in the early 1800s all the way to becoming a state in 1889, and the state's young history into the 1900s. The books include varying topics such as government, vigilantes, mining, climate, geology, Native Americans, and more. Sanders (1881-1955) established a prominent career as an author with a focus on Montana and Native American history. Many of her books featured detailed descriptions of Montana scenery, including Lake McDonald, located within the future boundaries of Glacier National Park. Sanders was also a leader for the women's suffrage movement, working closely with Jeanette Rankin to secure women's right to vote. These volumes are a must have for personal libraries on the American West and especially the Big Sky Country of Montana. The gold gilt leather hardcovers are rough, but the bindings, hinges, and interiors are in good shape. There are an intact gold gilt top edge, fore and bottom edge. The marbled pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing. Each volume measures 10.75"L x 8.25"W x 2"D, and the collective weight is 16lb 12oz.*
