Featured in this lot is an African impala taxidermy shoulder mount. The shoulder mount features a wonderfully and professionally crafted construction that shows great attention to detail to the care of the hide with lifelike facial reconstruction and the elegant antler spiraling upward. The impala or rooibok (Aepyceros melampus) is a medium-sized antelope found in eastern and southern Africa. The only extant member of the genus Aepyceros, and tribe Aepycerotini, it was first described to Europeans by German zoologist Hinrich Lichtenstein in 1812. Two subspecies are recognized—the grassland-dwelling common impala (sometimes referred to as the Kenyan impala), and the larger and darker black-faced impala, which lives in slightly more arid, scrubland environments. The overall condition of this Impala shoulder mount is good with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this shoulder mount is 32" x 17" x 19". The collective weight of this shoulder mount is 11lb 4oz.*
