Featured in this lot are two Alexander Martin (1841-1929) photos of Grand Lake, in Middle Park, Colorado in 1898. Alexander Martin (1841-1929) was a Scottish-born photographer who became one of Colorado's most successful commercial photographers from the 1870s to around 1901. He established his first studio in Boulder in 1874 and later worked in Central City, Georgetown, and several places in Denver, regularly changing residences as his business expanded. Martin created a variety of photographic views, including elaborate cabinet cards, stereographs, and street scenes, depicting mining towns, railroads, mountain scenery, and everyday life in Georgetown, Denver, Boulder, Cripple Creek, Leadville, and Idaho Springs. He passed away in Denver, Colorado in November 1929. These two photos were taken at Grand Lake in Middle Park, Colorado and show two different locations. The first location is a view from the South, and shows a few boats tied up on the shoreline. It is marked on the bottom readin, "3831. Grand Lake Middle Park Colorado, From the South. A. Martin Photo". The second photo was also taken from the South but at a higher elevation showing more of the lake and the surrounding mountains. It is marked on the bottom reading, "3823. Grand Lake Middle Park, Colorado from the South. 3823, A. Martin Photo". The photos show good condition overall with little wear present despite their age and use over the years. No major signs of damage is noted. They measure 5" L x 8" W and have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.
