The lot features a unique, artful cutout and side-notched American Indian Dag Knife with paddle-style wood handle that is brass trade tacked. The piece is incredibly similar to the example offered and sold for $10,000 at Sotheby’s Arts of the American West 2014 Sale from the Fred Crissman collection, showing the same spear lance-like tapering blade, batwing cutout, throwing knife shaped cutout, and double notch with paddle shaped grip. This piece shows a median ridge with raised edge, batwing cutout at the center and a slender cutout below. The blade has two notches and a wooden handle with beaver tail-like pattern, overall having a nice, deep chocolate patina and artfully applied brass trade tack designs on both sides. Provenance: From the Cyrus Eaton London, England collection. Measures overall 15” in length by 2 inches wide.
