Featured in this lot we have an original signed oil on canvas painting of a trade between Native American Indians and Fronteirsman settlers. This large painting was made by a student of master western artist Howard Terpning. Terpning is a famous western artist known for his depictions of the Native American peoples. This original painting shows a party of six Naive American braves trading a bag of unknown materials for a settlers mirror. The braves show a mix of Indian tanned hide and woven clothing with the red of the cloth contrasting wonderfully with the tan of the leather. The Indians are depicted with feather headdresses, quivers and shirts showing bead work and tassels. The horses accompanying each of the braves shows wonderful coloration with excellent detail. The two settlers are shown standing at the doorway to their log cabin with the woman standing at the door looking out at the half circle of braves while the man is trading with one of the braves. The log cabin is set on the edge of a evergreen forest with short grass leading to the front steps. The painting shows exceptional size and attention to detail. It is set into a large custom frame with ornate embossed designs and gilt gold painted to give it a tarnished brass aesthetic. The painting and frame show very good condition with no signs of wear or damage. The frame measures 64 3/4" wide by 41" tall with the art measuring 52" wide by 28" tall.
