Featured in this lot we have a ancient mammoth ivory gorget scrimshaw piece. The piece shows a barque sailing ship chasing after a whales tail that is surfaced in the fore ground. In the background you can see a second ship and with a light house under rain clouds. The piece originally was worn around the neck as a gorget. The ivory is affixed to a polished piece of wood by two brass dowels. The bottom of the wood base is marked "Mike Scott 2016". The back of the tusk is roughly carved, but smoothed and polished. The piece is in very good condition with no signs of damage or repair. It measures 7 1/2" wide by 2" thick by 3" tall.
