For your consideration is this original charcoal on paper drawing done by New York artist Anna E. Meltzer (1896-1975). Anna Elkan Meltzer (1896–1974) was an American painter, born in New York City's Lower East Side to Russian immigrant parents Rudolph (Joseph) and Sarah Elkan. Meltzer painted a variety of oils, graphics, genre scenes, portraits, and still lifes from the 1930s to the 1960s, many of which depicted interiors, cityscapes, and everyday life in New York, including Central Park (1940) and Market Scene in the Bowery. She showed extensively, including at the National Academy of Design (1942–45), Audubon Artists (1942, 1944–45), the National Association of Women Artists, and various solo shows from New York to Florida. She was an active educator, starting her own art school in 1942 and teaching at New York City College's extension division until 1964. Her works are housed in public collections such as the Berkshire Museum, Joslyn Museum, and Georgia Museum of Fine Art. She passed away in 1974.
