Featured in this lot is an Antique Bobbin-leg Parlor Table, circa 1850 to 1900. Bobbin-leg parlor side tables (also known as spool furniture) were initially popular in the 17th century in Northern Europe, re-emerging during the Victorian era and Arts and Crafts movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Bobbin furniture saw a massive resurgence during the Victorian era. With the advent of steam-powered machinery and the machine lathe, factories could mass-produce long lengths of turned wood, making these previously artisanal pieces more accessible to the middle class. Sometimes also referred to as a fern table because of its small decorative or pedestal appearance and use to showcase potted plants. This bobbin-leg parlor table features wonderfully and professionally constructed craftsmanship of quarter-sawn oak, two-tiered shelfs, the four turned bobbin legs taper at the end, and grooved aprons. A beautiful traditional piece that's very functional as well. Exhibits minor signs of wear, finish loss, and repair. Measures 14.375"W x 14.875"L x 28.5"H, weight is 7lb, 12oz.
