Featured in this lot are two INRI Catholic crosses with an antique age. One cross features a nickel silver bronze construction with ebony wood inlay, while the smaller second cross features a bronze construction with ebony wood inlay. The crosses show the crucifixion of Jesus and show a tag at the top reading, "INRI". The letters INRI are initials for the Latin title that Pontius Pilate had written over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross. The words were "Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm", translating to, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews". Below Jesus is a skull and crossed bones representing death, which is subjected to Jesus on the cross. The symbol is prominent in Orthodox icons of the crucifixion, as well as older Roman Catholic icons. The back of the crosses show the Sacred Heart image. In Catholicism, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol of Jesus's love for humanity and a sign of his divine and human love for his Father and for people. It's also a symbol of Jesus's interior life, which led him to be willing to sacrifice his life for people. In the center of the crosses is where the ebony wood inlay is present and both feature a loop at the top of the cross for hanging purposes or connected a chain to. The crosses show good condition overall with wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. The larger cross measures 5/8" L x 2 7/8" W x 6 1/8" H, while the smaller bronze cross measures 3/8" L x 1 7/8" W x 4" H. They have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.
