Featured in this lot is this Antique "Goff's Best Braid Made" Advertising Thread Spool Three-Drawer Cabinet, circa late 1800s to early 1900s. Made for a store to sell spools of thread in the days when every woman sewed, this American made antique has an excellent deep finish. Three drawers have "finger" dovetailed joints.
Goff's Best Braid made history through innovative manufacturing techniques, particularly in the area of braided materials. Darius Goff and his son, Darius L. Goff, established D. Goff & Son in 1864, marking a significant step in the braiding industry. Goff's company, American Worsted Co., later known as D. Goff & Son, was known for its production of worsted braids. Moreover, Goff's inventions included a process to produce mohair plush, making him the first manufacturer of plush in the United States in 1882.
This three-drawer spool cabinet has original finish on sides and top, original gold gilt stencil "Goff's Best Braid Made" on the back panel, turned wood knob pulls with stylized brass escutcheons. Original printed "tips" from the manufacturer still attached on top drawer inside.
This three-drawer spool cabinet is in very nice preserved condition, scuffing exhibited on sides and top. Measures 17.125"W x 17.5"L x 10.875"D, weight is 23lb.
