This lot includes an antique saddle makers bench, otherwise known as a "stitching pony". The bench utilizes a spring loaded clamp, and is operated with the foot pedal. The pedal bar is fixed to the clamp with a leather strap, and to the frame of the bench with a primitive hinge. This machine was used to clamp two pieces of leather together, while the smith would sew. The antique bench is crafted of wood, and originates from the mid-late 1800's. The bench shows good, sturdy, operating condition. The piece measures 25 3/4" long, 19 1/4" wide, and 43 1/2" tall.
