This lot gives you the chance to bid on a transitional period Connolly Brothers saddle. The Connolly Brothers (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) learned the ways of expert tack making from their Irish immigrant father, John Connolly. In 1907, the brothers relocated from Minneapolis to Butte, Montana, where Connolly Bros opened their first harness shop, only to move once again to Billings in 1912. It was in 1929 when Jack and Pat split ways, Jack moving to Livingston, and Pat remaining in Billings. This saddle shows the early "Connolly Bros - Billings, MONT." makers mark on the seat rise, and Jacks "Jack Connolly - Livingston, MONT. - PAT2008799", underneath each fender. It is believed Jack brought the saddle upper with him to Livingston, and finished the saddle with both "Connolly Bros", and Jack Connolly pieces. Aside from the interesting stampings, the saddle conforms to the quality construction of a Connally saddle, showing rich caramel colored leather, double-stacked leather conchos, copper stirup guards, brass rigging dees, and finished with copper hardware. This curious saddle comes to us from the estate of the late Bud Chapman, renowned Western Collector from Bozeman, Montana. The saddle shows good condition overall, with supple, hydrated leather. The saddle uses a 13" seat.
