For your consideration is an antique venetian Chevron trade bead necklace. These Chevron trade beads are a very large six layer bead that originates from a very old Alaska Inuit collection. The beads have been examined by a local bead expert and found to be authentic original examples. Chevrons beads are made by a multi-part process. They start with the making of the cane, then another color glass is added and then this is usually put into a 12 point star mold. This process is repeated for each additional layer on the bead. Chevron beads, also called "Rosetta"and "Star" beads have been made Venice since the late 1400's and are still in limited production today. The Venetian Chevron production with the highest volume of beads was in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Chevron beads have been traded throughout the world, but most heavily in Africa. The Dutch traders were the first to bring Chevron beads to Africa in the late 1400's. This beaded necklace is crafted from a beautiful array of chevron beads of varying sizes inter spaced by elegant cream colored beads. This necklace features 19 large chevron beads. In between are the large chevron beads are two smaller trade beads. They are strung onto a grass rope which measures 20" long tied. The large chevron beads measure at the largest 38.25mm in the length and 29mm diameter. At the smallest the beads each measure 34.69mm in length and 24.23mm in diameter. These beads sell regularly for $75 to $100 per bead putting the strands value at $1,425 to $1,900
