Included in this lot is an Antique Wabash American Oak Filing Cabinet, Wabash Cabinet Company, circa 1899-1910. Originally starting as the H.C. Underwood Manufacturing Co. in Kalamazoo, Mi. it moved to Wabash, Indiana in 1883 and changed its name to Wabash Cabinet Co. The Wabash Cabinet Company was a furniture manufacturer, particularly known for producing cabinets for phonographs in the early 20th century and filing cabinets around 1899. The company's history is tied to the city of Wabash, Indiana, where it was a prominent local business that supplied cabinets to larger manufacturers for the assembly of their products. This four drawer filing cabinet from 1899 - 1910 has lots of quarter sawn oak grain and a superb deep finish, stamped on the face top rail, "The Wabash Cabinet, Wabash, Ind." Drawers move on wooden slides, there are no pushers inside, standard wood divider inserts in each drawer. Copper pulls, label holders and hardware are original, standard 10 x 12 folders fit. Sides are paneled on this American made antique office or library furniture. The file cabinet is in good overall condition, wear noted on top and back panels from age and use, otherwise functionally and structurally sound. Measures 53.125"H x 27"D x 16"W, weight is 66lb 10oz.
