Presented in this lot is an Antique Wood Tabletop Butter Churn, circa 1900. The wooden churn features a wonderfully and professionally crafted horizontally mounted cylindrical wooden drum (white cedar), reinforced with iron hoops, and equipped with a side hand crank that rotates internal cross-shaped wooden paddles. The top features a wooden hatch door for internal access. The raw, unlacquered interior finish is 100% historically correct. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, butter churns were left intentionally untreated and unvarnished to ensure that chemical odors or flakes of paint would never contaminate the churning cream. This raw finish showcases the honest, gorgeous grain of the antique solid wood. This design was a major late 1800s innovation that replaced the laborious vertical "plunge" dashers. The churn is solidly built, barrel staves tight, paddle assembly tight and functional as designed. No marring observed. Measures 12.5"W x 15"L x 15.25"H, collective weight is 11lb, 6oz.
