Featured in this lot is this Apache Battle of Cienegulla iron arrowheads circa 1854. There are five points in this collection of various sizes. The arrow heads are from the Battle of Cienegulla which was a engagement fought between Jicarilla Apaches and the U.S. 1st Cavalry Regiment on March 30, 1854 near Pilar, New Mexico. About 250 Apaches and Utes ambushed cavalry and the battle lasted for about 4 hour. Apache warriors used flintlock rifles and iron tipped arrows. Of the 60 soldiers, 22 were killed and 36 wounded, along with a loss of 22 horses and much of the troops supplies. The condition of this collection is good with heavy oxidation to the arrowheads from age and exposure to the elements but otherwise the collection is in good intact condition. The measurements of these arrowheads range from 2 3/4" x 5/8" to 4 1/8" x 3/4"
