Available for public purchase is this fine set of Apache “Cactus Kicker” parfleche and hide moccasins fro circa early 1900. The set show a heavy Great American Bison Buffalo soles that wrap over the edge of the moccasins, this being typical of the early Apache style of “Cactus Kickers”. The set shows a high top design with Indian tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide construction having a rich dark red brown ocher mineral pigment painted surface. The also retains some of the original Indian tanned hide tie straps along with some harness saddle leather replacements. Each moccasin shows similar wear with the palm of the foot area having a crack or hole. The set dates to circa 1900 and shows the correct manufacture and patina to bear such an early and collectible age. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Each measures 10.5 inches in length by 4.5 inches wide and 9 inches high. The set shows a museum collection tag with identification number.
