The lot features a buffalo hide beaded pipe bag attributed to the Arapaho Indians of Wyoming and dating to the 19th Century. The circa 1880 bag consist of recycled Indian tanned Buffalo hide, buckskin and beadwork. The top has a beaded rim with original tie strap below and frilly fringe with red stroud trade clothe lining. Below this on the tapering throat of the pipe bag is a scalloped edge of red stroud wool trade clothe and s thick section of geometric beadwork shown on both sides. The beadwork is done in typical Apache fashion with 19th Century glass trade seed beads having a light blue background and pattern in medium blue, semi-transparent red and green. The middle section is Indian train-tanned buckskin with the beadwork section being Indian tanned Buffalo. The bottom has long frilly fringes with discoloration.
