Featured in this lot are two, cast iron toy cars made by Arcade Manufacturing Company circa 1930-40s. Charles and Fred Lauer began the company in 1885 in Freeport, Illinois. Initially, Arcade focused on more practical items such as coffee mills and stove parts before expanding into toys. In the early twentieth century, the firm turned its attention to cast iron toys, noticing the expanding need for toy cars, dollhouses, and other playthings. Arcade sprang to prominence as a renowned manufacturer of cast iron toys, particularly intricate and realistic miniature vehicles such as cars, trucks, and farm gear. The company collaborated with large brands like Ford and Caterpillar to develop branded toys that were highly regarded for their craftsmanship. The beginning of WWII officially ended the company's existence, as they went to making products for war endeavors and never returned to manufacturing toys after the war, essentially ending the business. The first and larger car shows a green color and features a man in the drivers seat operating the vehicle. The bottom is stamped reading, "Arcade MFG. Co.". The second in this lot is a red colored tow truck with replaced wooden wheels. It features twine as the tow rope and can be wound out and in with ease. The bottom of the truck is stamped reading, "Arcade". Both show good condition overall with wear present to the paint and the parts from their age and use over the years. Major signs of damage are not present. Slight oxidization present on both items. The larger measures 6 1/2" L x 3 1/8" W x 3 5/8" H, while the smaller measures 5 1/2" L x 2" W x 2 1/4" H. They have a collective weight of 2 pounds and 8 ounces.
