Featured in this lot is this Alpaca silver, brass overlay, and sleeping beauty turquoise concho and thunderbird brooch from Lakota artist Armand American Horse (1982-). This brooch shows a wonderfully crafted brooch design with a concho constructed from Alpaca silver and brass overlay, a round cut turquoise cabochon set into the center, and a Thunderbird dangle decoration underneath. The thunderbird is common to all Native American mythology. The thunderbirds are responsible for rain, lightning, and stormy weather. The eagle is considered to be the earthly representative of the mythical thunderbird. Offerings were made to the thunderbird of tobacco when the crops needed rain. The condition of this brooch is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this thunderbird concho brooch are 4 5/8" x 1 7/8" x 1/2".
