The lot features a fantastic sterling silver cigarette case from William B. Kerr or Kerr & Co. William B. Kerr was established in Newark, New Jersey in 1855 and listed as late as 1915. This case shows solid sterling silver and would have been found in a gentleman’s vest pocket with his cigarettes or small cigars. The outside of the case shows a linear parallel etched pattern and hand engraved initials of “A.E.O.B”, with beautiful stippling behind in an elongated diamond box. The case itself has two nice, large curved panels with latch and spring loading, along with two beautiful bars, which would have held the cigarettes or cigars in place. The bar is marked “Sterling” and was identified as being William Kerr’s hallmark. The piece appears to be in good condition and works. Overall, the case measures 4.25” by 3 1/8” by ¾” and weights 133.5 grams. The inside shows an amazing circular polish.
