For your consideration is an Original Arthur Pillsbury Orotone, "Birch Trees By Water", circa 1920, in original frame. Arthur Clarence Pillsbury (1870-1946) was a United States photographer, inventor, and filmmaker, known through his innovations which extended human vision at a critical time in our history. At the same time he was an artist of exceptional ability and insight and the focus of his life's work was a series of cameras that he invented and built to open up unseen vistas to the eyes of humanity. Those images are art in their own right. Both his stills and cropped cells from his motion pictures were used and sold as art by the company he started. The making of orotone (gold tone) prints was contemporary art in the early twentieth century. Orotones are often to be seen in interiors associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. An impressive orotone landscape photo of birch trees standing on the shoreline, a slight onshore breeze visible on the water surface. The orotone is in nice condition, original gold gilt wood frame is in good overall condition. Visible art measures 6"W x 8.75"L, frame is 7.5"W x 10"L x .5"D.
