Elizabeth Bacon Custer was born on April 8, 1842, in Monroe, Michigan, and died on April 4, 1933, in New York City. She was the wife of General George Armstrong Custer and became widely known for her tireless efforts to preserve and enhance her husband’s legacy after his death at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. Following his death, Elizabeth never remarried and instead dedicated her life to writing and lecturing in defense of Custer's reputation, portraying him as a gallant hero rather than a reckless commander. Her books, including Boots and Saddles, Following the Guidon, and Tenting on the Plains, offered romanticized accounts of their life together and significantly shaped public perception of Custer for generations. The condition of this book and Elizabeth Custer related ephemera is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage with some browning to the hand written note in the rear of the book but otherwise shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this 8 7/8" x 5 3/4". The collective weight of this book is 1lb.
