Featured in this lot are Arizona Territory bank checks / notes & envelopes from the First National Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. The first bank note / check is from the First National Bank of Tucson in the Territory of Arizona. It is to be paid to the Wells Fargo & Company Bank in the amount of one-hundred dollars and fifty cents and was signed by cashier A. E. Jacobs. It is stamped on the back in blue ink reading, "Pay Only Through Clearing House / Aug 16 1884 / 15 / Wells, Fargo & Co.". The second is an unmarked Wells Fargo & Company Bank check from Virginia, Nevada in the 1880s. The check number is stamped in blue ink reading, "290". The third bank note is marked on the top reading, "Office Marshall Williams, Broker" and is from Tombstone, Arizona in 1881. Marshall Williams was Tombstone's Wells Fargo agent. He was found to be "cooking the books" so he left town with a local prostitute and was never heard from again. The final two pieces are Wells, Fargo & Company Express unused envelopes from the 1880s. There is a larger one and a smaller one. They read on the front, "Forwarded by Wells, Fargo & Co's Express / This envelope must not be used for money shipment / Seal with wax, and stamp with the office or public seal". They show good condition overall with slight wear present from their age, but no major signs of damage are noted. They are set in plastic slip cases to preserve their condition. They measure from 5 1/2" L x 11 5/8" W to 2 3/4" L x 7 3/8" W. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. EX21 EX24 EX45 TTD24
