Featured in this lot is this Gianyar District handmade tribal mask; Bali, Indonesia circa 1960's. The mask features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wooden carved mask with traditional painted features that include geometric patterns throughout. The tags on the back read as follows: Handmade in Indonesia - Wooden plaque - This beatiful hand carved and brightly painted plaque is produced by a number of family groups of carvers and painters surrounding of the Gianyar district, the Bali's traditional art and cultural center, in Bali, Indonesia. The group consists of about 50 people, men and women and also the children (after school time). The hand carving is mainly carried out by the men and women. The children finish and painting by hand. The wood used is a commercial timber and , therefore, does not contribute to the loss of the tropical rain forest. The condition of this mask is well preserved with some slight chipping to the paint in areas but otherwise shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this mask is 11 7/8" x 10 7/8". The collective weight of this mask is 1lb 4oz.
