For your consideration is this hand carved wood, Chinese Imperial wall mounted mask from the 1950-60s. These masks hold a deep history in Chinese tradition, commonly used for exorcism, protection, and honoring deities, these masks were deeply symbolic, with fierce expressions,, bold colors (red/black), and intricate carvings representing authority, wisdom, and protection. This mask is intricately carved from rosewood and shows great attention to detail. The face of the mask shows a man with an angry expression, large mustache and beard. Two dragons adorn the right and left hand side towards the top of the mask with a floral design set in the center. The back features an older tag with Chinese characters and reads, "Dry Wood Hand Carved / Made In China". The back also features a small metal loop used to hang the mask on a wall. It shows good condition overall with little wear present and no damage noted. It measures 12 3/8" L x 8 3/8" W x 5 1/4" D and weighs 4 pounds and 12 ounces.
