The lot features a set of five original authentic lithographs from circa 1888 titled, “Battle of Shiloh” and are from Louis Prang. The original work of art collection was by Thure de Thulstrup (Swedish 1848-1930). The pieces were published by the American Lithographic Company in 1888 and copyrighted by Louis Prang & Co. of Boston. The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was a major battle in the Western Theater of the American Civil War and was fought April 7th 1862 in Southwestern Tennessee. Louis Prang was a renowned American printer, lithographer and publisher who was responsible for such wonderful pieces as the Thomas Moran chromolithographs, Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait and Thomas Hill. The pieces are all marked, “BATTLE OF SHILOH”, “Copyright 1888 by L. Prang & Co. Boston”, and “AMERICAN LITHOGRAPHIC CO.” The lot consist of five of the exact “Battle of Shiloh” chromolithographs all showing vivid coloring and overall good condition. Each measures overall 23.5”x17”.
