Featured in this lot we have a Belgian manufactured Velo-Dog hammerless pocket revolver chambered in .25 caliber. The Velo Dog was invented in the late 19th century by French inventor René Galand as a defensive weapon for bicyclists against dog attacks. The Velo Dog was originally chambered in a proprietary 5.57mm cartridges with later models adopting .22 LR and .25 caliber rounds with some cartridges loaded with cork, powder or other no lethal shot for those who didn't want to do lethal damage. While originally invented in France, copies where produced across Europe. This Belgian made revolver appears to originate from the late 1890's and features numerous import and manufacture proof marks and stamps. The pistol displays a 1 1/2" long octagonal barrel, five shot cylinder, folding trigger, manual safety, and hammerless design. The right side of the frame is marked with three Belgian manufacturer marks with the back of the cylinder displaying 4 proofs. Mechanically the pistol shows a crisp double action with proper cylinder timing. The piece shows good condition overall with some pitting and rust due to age and wear. The pistol weighs 6oz. Serial Number: No Serial Number. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
