This is a beautifully beaded hide Indian hide and trade clothe signal mirror bag and tacked signal mirror from the Blackfeet / Blackfoot Native American Indians of Northern Montana. The bag exhibits a wide beaded sash handle which is comprised of old red stroud trade wool from an early trade blanket with a muslin trade clothe border and trade thread sewn with old petit glass trade seed beads in a classic Northern Plains geometric pattern. The body of the bag is comprised of Indian tanned hide with the front covered in old petit seed trade beads in a wonderful geometric pattern and below thin Indian tanned buckskin fringes with rolled tin jingle dangle cones. The beads show colors of greasy blue, cobalt, semi-transparent red, greasy yellow, greasy blue white heart, light blue an chalk white. The mirror consists of a carved wood body with beveled glass antique silver backed mirror and is further adorned with old solid brass square shank trade tacks, tied on the bottom with Indian tanned hide is a red ribbon and at the top thick Indian tanned hide tie with a large old early wound glass trade bead. The bag is well kept in its early pattern with little to no bead loss. The bag itself measures 17.5" L by 8"W. The mirror is 8" by 3.25" with top strap. Truly a beautiful piece.
