The lot features a pair of early 1900’s beaded hide men’s moccasins from the family estate collection of Chief Little Dog, Last Pikunni War Chief, of all the Blackfeet from the Blackfeet Indian Reservation outside of Glacier Park in Montana. Chief Little Dog’s grandson Harvey Little Dog was the keeper of the family possessions and passed away in 2010. This came directly from the family and was said to have been owned by Chief Little Dog or his descendants. His warlike activities spanned an area from the Blackfoot territories to the Colorado river and he was the leader of the Black-Patched-Moccasin Band. He died in 1916. The moccasins exhibit thick tanned hide leather with thick tanned leather or rawhide hard bottoms showing sinew sewing being medium height men’s moccasins with trade glass pony beaded “Key-Hole” design atop of the foot with a sinew like thread showing black and white with a red stroud old trade clothe center. The ankle legging wraps are held together with five solid brass old brass buttons being sinew sewn on. The set shows a dark coloring with a separation at one toe and wear into the sole on one set, well worn set. Provenance: From the Chief Little Dog, Last Pikunni War Chief, of all the Blackfeet.
