Featured in this lot are two bison sculptures from the 1970-80s, one made of iron wood and one molded from plastic. Breyer Molding Company introduced the buffalo mold in 1965, and was sculpted by Chris Breyer. It is marked on its back leg reading, "Breyer Molding Co. / U.S.A.". It shows a deep red/brown color and is missing half of its left horn. The hand carved American Bison figure is made from a very heavy and dense wood, aptly named, Ironwood. No two items are alike as they will vary in hue intensity, wood grain and carving as the wood influences the final shape. Ironwood is responsibly collected from the Sonoran Deserts of Arizona and Northern Mexico from naturally fallen trees. The back leg has been repaired and its left horn has been broken off. The pieces show good condition overall with wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage noted. The Breyer sculpture measures 12 3/4" L x 4 1/4" W x 7 5/8" H, while the iron wood sculpture measures 9 7/8" L x 3 1/2" W x 6 1/4" H. They have a collective weight of 4 pounds and 4 ounces.
