Included in this lot is a Rare First Edition of "By Canoe and Dog Train Among the Cree and Salteaux Indians" by Rev. Egerton R. Young, 1890, publishers Hunt & Eaton, New York; Cranston & Stowe Cincinnati. To be a missionary to Canadian Indians in the late 1800s meant you had to be brave and relentless. It meant nearly freezing when sleeping outside in 50-below-zero weather. It meant canoeing upstream for hundreds of miles to reach remote Indian villages. It meant eating wild cat and other stranger things, or eating nothing for days at a time. But it also meant you were privileged to present the good news of the true Great Spirit to those who were often misunderstood and mistreated. The adventures in this book are rivaled only by the incredible conversions of those who saw the Creator in nature and then worshipped Him too. You will be challenged and inspired by the results of one man who went where the Lord led, with little regard for himself. This is Young's account of his time among the Cree and Saulteaux Indians. This work features full-page engravings including one of a dog-sled team through snowy Canada. This maroon coloured cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in fair to good condition, front cover stamped vignettes still visible but fading, gold gilt still clean and bright on front cover but fading on spine. The spine is loose spine and there is scuffing exhibited on edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. Measures 8"L x 5.75"W x 1"D, weight 1lb 4oz.*
